CURRAQUILL GARDEN

This garden in Dromineer enjoys breathtaking views of Lough Derg & Clare Hills

Curraquill garden enjoys elevated views of Lough Derg and the Clare Hills. It is set on 1 acre and, is loosely based on a cottage style. The garden is divided into different areas – a vegetable area that has a polytunnel and rustic pergola growing rambling roses and fruiting grape vine, which frames aviaries holding various species of caged birds.

The small apple orchard leads into the area that holds the hens, planted with shrubs and small trees. The next garden room holds two borders that hold a mixture of shrubs and herbaceous perennials. A duck pond harvests rainwater and is surrounded by more herbaceous beds- this leads to the lawn area where a dovecote holds pride of place. This area is currently being developed with more flower beds being planned.

We try to garden as organically as possible, using no chemical sprays or weed-killers so as to create a wildlife-friendly environment. Plants featuring in the garden: Oriental poppies, delphiniums, lupins, irises, ligularia phlox, day lilies, hostas, roses, lavender. Crocus, daffodils, narcissi and tulips.
